"Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every moment with love..." - www.blue zones.com
This week our focus is on the Second Chakra, the home of our sensual and sexual energy our POTENCY and our PASSION for life. The sense associated with this chakra is TASTE, and when your second chakra is dominant you have a big appetite for connection, experience, fun, pleasure and enjoyment- as the French would put say, "joie de vie", or a zest for life. Part of this is our sexual energy which, when it is balanced and healthy, is really just our basic life force energy. I was reading today about the research they have done in "Blue Zones"- the places around the world whose populations have the longest life expectancy on the planet- and they have found a bunch of lifestyle habits that they all share. Many of these factors are not surprising- a largely plant based, vegetarian diet, low intensity exercise on a daily basis, a sense of purpose, and good connections with family and friends. But one factor that really stood out to me is that the older people in these blue zones generally have a healthy sex life; sometimes into their 80's and 90's! It seems that keeping your vital energy moving really does keep you young and healthy.
In yogic terms, we talk about the "Ojas" or the juices that are secreted after the production of sexual fluids in the body. Ojas is a highly concentrated nutritional fluid that keeps your body running smoothly, much like oil keeps your car running properly. When our ojas is depleted, we can feel very brittle, dry and low energy, our immune systems suffer, our minds become over-active and stressed out, and we lack stamina and vitality. Basically, things don't work as well as they could. We can build our ojas through our diet, and through yogic exercises that focus on transmuting sexual energy into spiritual energy, making it available to the higher centres. Kundalini Yoga has some great sets for this (Sat Kriya is a fantastic one). While it seems to be very helpful to have a healthy and active sex life, too much sex (more specifically, too much ejaculation for men) can also deplete your ojas. So, it is important to find the balance that works for you. Enjoy a nourishing diet, including onion, garlic, ginger, eggplant, figs, dates, ghee and almond oil, and boost your system with lots of Yogi Tea! I've included an easy to make recipe below.
Tonight, we will awaken our Second Chakra energy, balance the pelvis, and BOOST OUR POTENCY and Life Force! This is such a vital aspect of living from your Invincible Spirit.

RECIPE FOR YOGI TEA
• Black pepper: blood purifier
• Cardamom pods: digestive aid
• Cloves: beneficial to the nervous system
• Cinnamon: strengthens the bones
• Ginger root: healing for colds and flu, increases energy
The milk in the tea helps in the easy assimilation of spices. A homeopathic dose of black tea acts as an alloy for all the ingredients, creating just the right chemical balance. While it was not a part of the original recipe, soy or other milk substitutes can be used.
For each cup:
10 ounces of water (about 1 1/3 cups)
3 whole cloves
4 whole green cardamom pods, cracked 4 whole black peppercorns
1⁄2 stick cinnamon
1⁄4 teaspoon black tea
1⁄2 cup milk
2 slices fresh ginger root
Bring water to a boil and add spices. Cover and boil 15 to 20 minutes, then add black tea. Let sit for a few minutes, then add the milk and return to a boil. Don’t let it boil over. When it reaches a boil, remove immediately from heat, strain, and sweeten with honey, if desired. You can also drink Yogi Tea cold, and without milk. I like to make a big batch, and keep a jug in the fridge. Yogi Bhajan said drinking a cold yogi tea first thing in the morning is very beneficial for the liver.
