This week we are exploring the power of SELF LOVE and the Heart Chakra. This is one of the most liberating gifts we can give ourselves, to finally ACCEPT and LOVE ourselves, just the way we are. It is so simple, and at the same time, so challenging for most of us. In fact, of all of the principles we are working with in this series, it's probably the one we struggle with the most. Ever wonder why that is?
When we are born, our nervous systems are not completely formed. We need the reflection of our carer to give us the feedback that all is well, that we are safe and secure, that we are loved and that we are enough. That's why it is so important for babies to receive physical contact, to be held, and to know there is someone there when they are in need. The quality of attention also really matters. When a parent is anxious, insecure, stressed or disconnected, that information is absorbed by the baby's nervous system- eg. it's not safe, something is wrong, you are not enough, or there is no love and connection here. Most of us did not get the quality of attention that would have been optimal for our system to thrive, and we spend our lives trying to compensate for it! Many of us are chasing that love and connection we were missing as a new born, and unfortunately most of us are still looking for it outside of ourselves. We are looking for it through our relationships, through sex, through food, through professional validation, and in so many sneaky and subtle ways that will never ever pay off. All because we have not reached that understanding that we are ENOUGH, we ARE LOVE, we are BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT reflections of GOD in human form. And, nobody can ever give you that until you realise it within yourself.
The good news is, it is never too late to love yourself. It is a process, and it can take time, but we are able to heal and develop those parts of the nervous system that did not get completed when we were very little. One of the modalities that has helped me is Somatic Experiencing, which works on healing trauma in the nervous system. Another one is Kundalini Yoga and Meditation, which offers so many fantastic kriyas specifically for this purpose. Kundalini Yoga helps us to OPEN OUR HEART and to uncover some of the MAGNIFICENCE that has been buried under the layers of accumulated callouses we have developed to harden and protect ourselves against life over the years. All the yoga we do supports us to develop self love, but I will be sharing some of the specific sets that work on this theme tonight. I hope you can make it/
